Hello and Welcome to Duke Diagnostic Radiology!
I am so glad you have chosen to take the time to visit our website and learn more about the program.
Simply stated, we think our residents are the best in the world. I promise you that as a Duke Radiology resident, you will have a wealth of resources to become the very best radiologist you desire to be. At Duke, you will be exposed to a wide breadth of pathology, ranging from the complex transplant and cardiac patients of Duke’s renowned surgical services to patients with more common problems such as ACL tears and pneumonia. Our residents provide patient care in collaboration with Duke's world-class clinical departments. They experience a variety of clinical environments including a level 1 trauma center, a state-of-the-art Cancer Institute, the Durham Veteran’s Administration Hospital, which is conveniently located just across the street, and if they choose, our community hospital in Raleigh.
The autonomous independent resident call continues to be a core component of our curriculum, of which we are fiercely proud. Our diagnostic radiology residents produce a high level of image interpretations while taking an autonomous overnight call – an experience that instills a sense of confidence among our residents that is not easily replicated in other training environments.
Duke Radiology has long held resident education among its highest priorities. Here, you will learn from experts in each of the traditional clinical divisions of radiology (abdominal, breast, cardiovascular/cardiothoracic, vascular interventional, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, and radiotheranostics, and pediatric imaging) both side by side at the workstation and in multiple daily didactic and case-based conferences. Research and teaching opportunities are abundant. With our 3/2 curriculum, residents have the opportunity for nearly 10 months of dedicated research time in their R4/PGY-5 year. If research is not your primary interest, you may customize your 3/2 experience with clinical electives and/or a mini fellowship.
However, the very best part of our program is the people that comprise it. Our residents have varied backgrounds and diverse interests. Their innovative ideas, passion, and energy helped fuel the forward momentum that allows our program to be one of the most highly regarded programs in the country year after year. We honor a sense of team spirit and emphasize a culture of inclusivity, support, and trust. Faculty and residents are on a first-name basis and work alongside one another at the PACS stations. And…we also like to have fun (check out the “Our City” section as you navigate through the site!)
Thank you again for taking the time to learn about Duke Radiology. There are simply too many great qualities of our program to list them all so you must come and see for yourself!

"I chose Duke Radiology because of the ability to attend a world-class radiology residency in a great area for outdoor activity with low cost of living. At Duke, I am surrounded by people that are smarter than I am but who are kind and patient enough to explain things until even I can understand them."

"Duke has always held a special place in my heart. My husband and I met during med school orientation at Duke and got married here during graduation weekend. We can’t imagine living or training anywhere else!"
