Visiting Observerships

Due to COVID-19 we are not able to offer visiting observerships until further notice.

Visiting observerships offer radiologists an informal learning experience in a university hospital environment. The observerships are designed to enable practicing radiologists to acquire basic or additional exposure to specialty imaging areas. Learning opportunities include participation in daily case reading sessions, lectures by Duke faculty and departmental teaching conferences. No direct patient care participation is allowed. The observerships are scheduled on a weekly basis except for a week of holidays and national radiology meetings. Up to 40 hours of Category 1 CME credit is available for an observership.

Cost of the observership is $1900.00(USD) per week.

Observerships in the following areas are available:

  • Abdominal Imaging
  • Breast Imaging
  • Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular Imaging
  • Neuroradiology (including CT and MRI)
  • Nuclear Medicine/Cardiology/PET
  • Musculoskeletal Imaging
  • Pediatric Imaging
  • Vascular/Interventional Radiology

Foreign or domestic radiology residents may observe in the department. Their rotation schedule can be formulated by the Residency Program Director or designee. They will be expected to attend Duke resident conferences, including morning conference, Hot Seat conference and daily sectional teaching conference.
