IR in Durham and the Research Triangle

Durham, The City of Medicine, is located in the beautiful Research Triangle area of North Carolina.

The Triangle encompasses Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. It is situated midway between the Appalachian Mountains and the beautiful sandy beaches of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The Triangle is home to thousands of young professionals and offers a wealth of social activities.

We’re not the only ones who think Durham is a special place.  Our city is routinely rated as among the nation’s best places to live, work and play.

North Carolina’s weather allows for outdoor activities nearly year round, which include biking, tennis, golfing, and running. The Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones designed course, and the site of the 2001 NCAA golf championship, offers discounted fees to residents.

The Triangle permits easy weekend or day outings and ample recreational opportunities. Some of the activities include kayaking along the Intracoastal Waterway, deep sea or offshore fishing, hiking, and camping. Several large lakes in the Durham area provide local outlets for fishing and waterskiing. The Eno River State Park and Duke Forest offer miles of trails and wildlife viewing opportunities just minutes from campus.

Durham’s cultural offerings rival those of much larger cities. Our brand new Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), located in the historic Tobacco District of downtown Durham, has become a national model for community arts programs, hosting seasonal Broadway runs, the American Dance Festival, concerts and comedy performances. Music lovers enjoy the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival and the Durham Bulls Blues Festival. Art lovers have access to Duke’s Nasher Museum of Art.

Having three rival NCAA schools in the Triangle makes this a year-round haven for sports fans. In addition to the best college basketball anywhere, there is also big time college football, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, NHL hockey (the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes play in nearby Raleigh), and minor league baseball (our Durham Bulls are featured in the 1988 film, Bull Durham).

Another great advantage of Durham is our affordable cost of living. Most of our residents own their own homes.
