Duke Imaging Services Members Receive UNC Radiologic Science Class of 2025 Awards

Two members of Duke Radiology’s Imaging Services were recently honored by the UNC Radiologic Science Class of 2025.

Carla Stephens received the prestigious Doris S. Newton Award. This award recognizes the technologist whose clinical mentorship has most profoundly shaped the graduating class’s professional growth.

Carla is celebrated for her clinical excellence, compassionate instruction, and unwavering dedication to both patient care and student development. Her mentorship goes beyond teaching—it inspires. She is a deeply valued member of Duke Imaging Services.

Joseph Y. Cao, M.D., received the James H. Scatliff Award, an honor presented annually by the UNC Radiologic Science Class of 2025. This award recognizes a radiology professional who exemplifies the values and educational philosophy of the late Dr. Scatliff.

Dr. Cao is celebrated for his dedication to radiologic technology and ultrasonography, his commitment to education, and his collaborative spirit. His mentorship and accessibility have made a lasting impact on students, technologists, and sonographers alike. He is a cherished member of the Imaging Services and Radiology team at Duke.
