Department Welcomes New Faculty

A warm welcome to the 12 new faculty who joined the department over the summer. 

Ashley Besch

Ashley Besch, MD, MS 

Dr. Besch completed a bachelor's degree from Rollins College and a Master of Science from Tufts University. Following medical school at the University of Washington, Dr. Besch completed residency training at both the University of Washington and Duke University, followed by fellowship training in Breast Imaging at Duke University, in June 2026.

Dr. Besch joins the Community Division, effective August 30, 2026.

Nathan Brajer

Nathan Brajer, MD, MBA

Following undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Brajer completed both an MBA and medical degree at Duke University. Dr. Brajer remained at Duke for an Interventional Radiology Residency, completing in June 2026. 

Dr. Brajer joins the Community Division, effective September 1, 2026.

Scott Goodwin

Scott Goodwin, MD

After completing undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Goodwin earned a medical degree from Harvard University. Dr. Goodwin then completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Duke University, followed by fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Imaging, June 2026. 

Dr. Goodwin joined the Musculoskeletal Imaging Division on August 17, 2026.

Jordan Gross

Jordan Gross, MD

After completing undergraduate and medical education at The George Washington University, Dr. Gross pursued residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at Einstein Medical Center and fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Imaging at UCLA. Prior to joining the Department, Dr. Gross most recently practiced at UCLA Health.

Dr. Gross joins the Musculoskeletal Imaging Division, effective September 14, 2026.

Albert Jiao

Albert Jiao, MD

Dr. Jiao received an undergraduate degree from Yale University and a medical degree from Michigan State University. Following residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard University, Dr. Jiao completed fellowship training in Neuroradiology at the University of Michigan Hospital. 

Dr. Jiao joined the Neuroradiology Division, effective July 27, 2026.

Vilert Loving

Vilert Loving, MD, MMM

After completing undergraduate studies at Stanford University and medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Loving completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Washington, specializing in Breast Imaging. Prior to joining the department, Dr. Loving held the role of Vice Chair of Clinical Operations Service Line at Ochsner Health System.

Dr. Loving joins the Community Division, effective September 7, 2026

Katie Shpanskaya

Yekaterina (Katie) Shpanskaya, MD 

After earning a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a medical degree from Stanford University, Dr. Shpanskaya completed specialty training in Diagnostic Radiology and subspecialty training in Neuroradiology at Duke University in June 2026. 

Dr. Shpanskaya joined the Neuroradiology Division, effective August 1, 2026.

Brian Singleton

Brian Singleton, MD, MBA

Dr. Singleton received a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and earned a medical degree from Marshall University. Following residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at National Naval Medical Center Bethesda/Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Dr. Singleton went on to build a successful career in clinical practice, most recently with Crouse Radiology Associates in Syracuse, New York. 

Dr. Singleton joined the Community Divisioneffective June 1, 2026.

Jenny Smith

Jenny Smith, MD, MSE

Dr. Smith earned degrees from The University of Akron, the University of Pennsylvania, and The University of Toledo before completing both residency and fellowship training at Duke University in June 2026.

Dr. Smith joins the Musculoskeletal Imaging Division effective August 24, 2026.

 

Jose Viramontes

Jose (JJ) Viramontes, MD

Dr. Viramontes earned his undergraduate degree from University of Texas at Austin. He then completed medical degree and Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Residency at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in June 2026. 

Dr. Viramontes joins the Community Division, effective September 1, 2026

Amr Wardeh

Amr Wardeh, MD

Dr. Wardeh completed undergraduate studies at Michigan State University before earning a medical degree from St. George's University. Following residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Dr. Wardeh completed a Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship at Duke University in June 2026. 

Dr. Wardeh joined the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division effective July 27, 2026.

Mary Woodruff

Mary Woodruff, DO

After completing undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware, Dr. Woodruff earned a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Woodruff went on to complete a Diagnostic Radiology residency at Cooper University Hospital and fellowship training in Abdominal Imaging at Duke University, completed in June 2026.

Dr. Woodruff joins the Abdominal Imaging Division, effective September 1, 2026.
