Research Support

The Department of Radiology is involved in a wide range of clinical and laboratory research.  All imaging modalities are available for standard of care clinical investigation.  Dedicated imaging equipment for preclinical research studies are also available.  Internal department support is available for such endeavors and may be applied for through the Radiology Clinical Research Unit (CRU) committee.

Research Projects Externally Funded (Federal or other sponsored programs)

For Radiology Investigators

Applications: All applications must be submitted to Dana Sanders, dana.sanders@duke.edu, no less than 12 business days prior to the application deadline. Your application is then prepared by the Radiology Business Office for submission to the Duke Office of Research Administration (ORA); this process requires 5 business days for preparation. Applications are then due to the ORA 7 business days prior the deadline date. In most cases the time will total 2 weeks and 1 day prior to the deadline for submission. The applicant can continue to amend the scientific section of the application until the submission date. See Duke Office of Research Administration and their Grant Proposal Waiver Request for ORA policy and a discussion of what must happen if the application reaches ORA late. Sponsored Research Closeout Residual Funds Transfer The School of Medicine (SOM) enacted a policy in July 2013 that affects the residuals being transferred into Faculty research discretionary codes at closeout. The SOM will assess (takes) 13% of residual transfers made to faculty research discretionary codes at time of close-out. The departments will ultimately receive 40% of that 13% assessment back to help cover CRU overhead costs. Close out residuals = $10,000 Radiology split = 33% Faculty and 67% CRU 10,000 x 33% = $3,300 SOM assessment 13% of $3,300 = $429 Amount transferred into Faculty discretionary code is $3,300 – $429 = $2,871 Amount transferred back to the CRU from SOM is 40% of $429 = $171.60.  Please contact the School of Medicine Implementation team at SOM.Implementation@dm.duke.edu and access Closeout Project website  for additional information.
