Duke Radiology has a dedicated team of imaging physics specialists with the explicit mandate of assuring the highest level of performance from our imaging equipment and how they are used. All devices are rigorously tested on a routine basis and their quantitative performance charted overtime to ensure consistency over time. The group also reviews the imaging protocols to ensure that they all well tuned. To ensure that the radiation dose to our patients is lowest compared other institutions nationwide, the department deploys a comprehensive dose monitoring program in which individual patient doses are registered, and the data routinely analyzed to ensure our designed optimized operation provide the targeted dose levels.
The quality of imaging operations at Duke University Hospital is endorsed by the American College of Radiology Accreditation process. The accreditation covers all applicable modalities including CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, PET, and all breast imaging modalities. The accreditation is an attestation of the high standard of all the components of a quality imaging operation including the equipment, the use of the equipment, and the credentials of the faculty and personnel.
