The longstanding focus of my research has been in the evaluation and technical improvement of chest radiography. Beginning with analysis of problems limiting technical excellence in chest imaging and progressing to the development and testing of strategies designed to overcome some of these inherent limitations, we are now focused on developing clearer and more precise metrics for system evaluations. Progressing from development and evaluation of a variety of thoracic imaging devices including computed radiography (CR) and direct radiography (DR) and evaluation and implementation of various picture archiving and communications systems (PACS), we have now focused on the efficiency of digital imaging devices including assessment of detective quantum efficiency (DQE)and most recently system DQA which assesses the efficiency of not only the detector but of the entire system configuration as well.
