Dr. Tina Tailor Awarded STR Seed Grant

Dr. Tina Tailor, Clinical Associate and Fellow in the Division of Cardiothoracic Imaging, has been selected as the 2016 Society of Thoracic Radiology (STR) seed grant recipient, in the amount of $19,000 for her project entitled “Integration of CT imaging features with cell-free plasma DNA as biomarkers for early lung cancer detection in patients with indeterminate pulmonary nodules”.  Dr. Edward Patz Jr., James and Alice Chen Professor of Radiology, serves as her project mentor.

With advances in technology, increasing imaging utilization, and the clinical implementation of lung cancer screening, the detection of indeterminate pulmonary nodules is on the rise. Although nodules are readily detected, determining which nodules may represent lung cancers is problematic.  Dr. Tailor’s project proposes a novel approach for minimizing patient risk, over-diagnosis, and cost associated with the management of indeterminate nodules.
