Salary and insurance
 
Annual resident stipend can be found on Duke’s GME website:  http://www.gme.duke.edu/stipends/stipends20092010.htm).  
 
Each resident is covered by Duke Managed Care hospitalization insurance. Please refer to The Housestaff Manual & Benefit Guide for additional information on health, dental and vision insurance offerings.
 
Duke provides (Long Term) Disability Insurance and provides all trainees with $100,000 group term life insurance coverage.
 
 
Child care
 
The Duke Children’s Campus is an on-campus daycare center exclusively for Duke Faculty, staff and graduate/professional students. For additional information, visit the Duke Children’s Campus website at www.hr.duke.edu/dcc.
 
 
Radiology benefits
 
Each resident is allotted an education stipend that may be used to purchase a variety of teaching and learning materials.  As part of the 3/2 program, residents are issued a personal computer at the end of their 3rd year of residency, or may opt to have their book fund reimbursed for their own computer purchase (restrictions apply). 
 
 
Moonlighting
 
Internal moonlighting opportunities are available to junior and senior residents to cover off-site MR center for contrast reactions. 
 
 
Discounts
 
Special discounts are available to all Duke residents and their families at innumerable local eating, clothing, automotive and entertainment establishments:  www.hr.duke.edu/discounts/index.php.  Residents also receive discounted tickets to the Broadway Series South, the American Dance Festival, the North Carolina Symphony and some Duke sporting events.
 
 
Fitness
 
Residents have full and free access to the Medical Alumni Association Fitness Center, an exercise facility located in the basement of the hospital parking garage and intended solely for the use of Duke residents and medical students.
 
Residents and spouses are eligible to use many of Duke's athletic and recreational facilities, including the University's swimming pools, tennis courts, racquetball courts, and the Wilson Recreation Center, a $20 million, 99,000-square-foot on-campus athletic and recreation center.
 
 
Parking
 
Parking is free to house staff. The parking garage is located directly across the street from DUMC and the VA Hospital. The garage has an underground walkway that may be used in the event of inclement weather.
 
 
On-call meal allowances
 
Evening meal stipend provided to on-call residents.
 
 
House Staff Lounge
 
Duke’s new House Staff Lounge, provides refreshments, computer access, and an environment where all Duke trainees can meet and relax.
 
 
Library
 
The radiology residents have a dedicated library.  In addition to the newest edition textbooks (and some old classics), the library has computers and an expansive array of digital teaching media, including an electronic teaching file and DVD’s of lectures from the most recent Duke Review Course and other Duke CME courses.  StatDx is also available throughout the radiology department.
 
 
Conference Benefits
 
All 4th years attend the renowned Duke Review Course in the spring of their 4th year, free of charge.  DVD’s of the most recent year’s lectures are available for review in the residents’ library.  Residents also attend, free of charge, Duke’s Cardiovascular MR Practicum during their 4th year.
